How to Care for Cloisonne Enamel Art on Everyday Items

Your personalized cloisonné artwork is made on an everyday item that you will see, and often use, again and again. A little care keeps the gold-toned lines, crisp color boundaries, and glossy finish looking their best. Because our pieces are handmade and not kiln-fired, the artwork surface is not glass-hard like traditional enamel, so gentle handling matters.

1. Dust and wipe gently

Use a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush to remove dust and fingerprints. Avoid pressing hard, especially along the fine golden outlines.

2. Clean with care

If needed, lightly dampen a soft cloth and wipe the surface, then dry it right away. Skip harsh cleaners, solvents, alcohol-based wipes, abrasive pads, and polish, which can dull or damage the finish.

3. Keep it away from water and heat appliances

Do not soak the item, and keep it out of dishwashers and microwaves. Avoid humid spaces such as bathrooms.

4. Avoid direct sunlight and high heat

Long exposure to strong sunlight or heat can fade colors over time. Do not leave your item on a car dashboard or near a radiator or vent.

5. Protect it from scratches and impact

Keep your item away from sharp objects, keys, and coins, and avoid dropping it. For items carried in a bag or pocket, store them in a soft pouch.

6. Handle with clean, dry hands

Hold the item by its edges or base when possible, and avoid pressing on raised lines.

7. Store it safely

When you are not using or displaying the item, wrap it in a soft cloth and keep it in a dry place, away from heavy objects.

Why clean color separation matters

The defining feature of cloisonné is that each color sits in its own compartment, bordered by a fine golden line. We take extra care during production to keep boundaries sharp, so your artwork looks crisp from day one. With gentle handling, it will stay that way.
